My Students

I teach middle school band to over 400 6th, 7th, and 8th graders! My students come from so many walks of life, and they are brought together by the communal effort of learning to play an instrument and perform as a group. For many, Band is a safe haven and a place they know they will be successful. It is also a place where many thrive even when they struggle in other ways in the building.

My band program provides opportunities for my students to learn and grow through music.

The skills they learn in band will serve them beyond their musical endeavors. Cooperation, teamwork, and getting their brains working in a way no other class can helps provide them with a well-rounded educational experience.

My Project

This project is for a set of 10 trumpet mutes that will be used for specific pieces of music that call for muted trumpet. At the middle school level, certain music we play calls for trumpets to use a mute, but not every student has their own.

This project would supply our classroom with a set of 10 trumpet mutes for us to loan out to trumpet students as needed.

Because this piece of equipment is rarely used at this grade level, having a class set on hand would allow us to provide a mute to students instead of expecting they go purchase one.
