My Students

Students struggle being engaged in reading, but Trino's Choice really grabbed their attention, and I would love to indulge their engagement with the second novel in the series. Their reading must continue.

Our school has 99% Latinos, but our school is focused on International Studies such as learning Mandarin Chinese, Korean, French, and Japanese.

The students love their home culture, and I want them to continue their reading adventure starting in their own cultural background.

My Project

We've started a 1,000,000 word challenge at our school, and I want the students to be able to keep reading and stay interested using books that speak to their personal cultural experience and backgrounds. The students don't have access to lots of books in their home, and the library has a very limited supply of books to choose from. The students are busy taking care of their brothers and sisters, sometimes being the man or woman of the house at the age of 13. I want our students to be able to select books without having the need to go beyond their homes. The students will have Trino's Time to continue their reading odyssey with characters they identify with and truly enjoy learning about. Trino's Time will help the students build confidence as they read and develop better skills that they can take to classes beyond English.

Students who are skilled, experienced readers traditionally are much better writers.

The ultimate goal of the 1,000,000 word challenge is to build a better rounded, academically successful student. Your contribution will make that happen and help secure students' development for this year and for future classes.
