Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a large high school. My classes are big, and my students' dreams are bigger. They are very enthusiastic about learning music. For many of them, music has changed their life. It has given them purpose and understanding. Music levels the playing field and does not discriminate. My students love band instruments. They yearn for anything that produces a sound and will stop at nothing to get a chance to play, practice, and perform for others.

I believe that everyone can learn if given the equipment and the opportunity.

Providing my students with method books and instruments will give them that opportunity to musically soar to the Heavens. Everyone performs; everyone learns. Everybody plays, everybody wins.

My Project

The material I need for my project will enhance student motivation, participation, and engagement. More students will be able to participate with actual instruments, as my classes are 45 students.

Secondly, social-emotional learning will be greatly enhanced with the therapeutic effects of creating live music.

Self-discipline and collaboration are incorporated into these constructs each time students perform with one another. The hands-on approach also helps to develop critical thinking skills. Continuous decision making in attention to time, volume, and relationship to other parts of the music foster independence as well as memory retention.
