Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Bringing ancient history alive through National Geographic videos! This is an exciting way to create a meaningful video center in a classroom that is lacking technology!

Teaching in New York offers many opportunities to visit museums. However, teaching 190 students a year brings the obstacle of being able to bring them all on meaningful trips. How can I show the students Ancient Egypt or China and not bore them with another picture in a textbook?

National Geographic is the solution! I am fortunate enough to have a TV in my classroom with a DVD player. If we had a substantial video collection that pertained to the topics we learned about we could have an excellent video center. The students would be able to visit the center in groups of 4 or 6 (headphones a must) and complete activities that accompanied the film. They would get a personal in-depth experience of Ancient Civilizations as well as influential leaders. They would be able to then discuss these videos with their group. Best of all, it's not the textbook!

Helping these students in a school that lacks technology would be a meaningful endeavor. I love to see children when they watch a video that takes them on a journey through the Twelve Gates of the Egyptian Afterlife. They really get it after watching it! I believe that your donation would help reach many children and expand their love of Ancient History!
