My Students

My classroom is a homogeneous class of gifted and talented students. They are bright and often have knowledge about a vast number of topics. Many believe gifted and talented students will learn simply because they are smart. How wrong they are! Gifted students can be more difficult to teach because of what they know, and they often question why they should know more. That is why I am always searching for unusual books, logic and thinking activities, and technology tools that will help me tap my students critical and creative thinking and introduce them to a bigger world.

In the past several years our district has cut funding to our program, and I fear that the impact of hurricane Harvey will decrease even more funding.

It is my goal to ensure that my students' needs are met by academically challenging them each and every day.

My Project

By adding paperback novels and technology that can download thousands of books, my classroom will become a place where students can travel the world as they read. The paperback books will serve as the tactile way to read....touch and feel the pages as they travel the story.

The Kindle Fire will give my students access to a library of books that far exceeds what my school library can offer.

They will have the ability to research titles, read summaries, and then choose a book of their liking. The more opportunities I offer my students the broader I am able to expand their educational world. So from the world of reading students will share what they have learned in different mediums of writing...short stories, poetry, songs, etc.
