Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These books will create the classroom library of my students' wildest dreams. My classroom library is a place where my students can relax, and find comfort in a book. I am a first year teacher, in person, and know that a strong classroom library will open the world to my students and show them that life isn't just what's in their neighborhood. For many of my students, they won't be able to travel past their neighborhood, let alone out of state. By providing these books for my classroom library, they will have the ability to view the world on a global scale. I will spend time in my classroom library, reading to my students, allow them to complete their work there, and give access to the independent reading list on my shelves! Every student book that is placed in my library will be treated with love and respect, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read books they wouldn't ordinarily have access to. Every book chosen is with my students in mind, so that they will be able to see themselves in the pages of a book. With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level and further cultivate a love for reading.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them, show their lives, reaffirm their identities, and represent their families.

The best way to increase reading ability is to read books you're interested in which will drive them to read more. These books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
