My Students

My students have been through a lot. Like all individuals, they have hard days, easy days, and every kind of day in-between. However, in the past few years, it seems that most days have been of the hardest kind. They have endured school closings, adapted to new norms, experienced extreme changes in routine, and felt the stress of illness and its consequences.

Through these difficult circumstances, more than what many may endure in adulthood, they have persevered.

They have completed online school, learned to adapt to wearing masks, attended class in-person and at-home, lost family members, been separated from friends, quarantined due to illness, and so much more. In short, they have overcome each and every day. When their biggest challenges should be school, friends, and families, they are showing incredible grit in unfamiliar and frightening circumstances. They are remarkable.

My Project

The LEGO World Map is intended to help students build their spatial thinking skills. As we learn about the world's geography, both human and physical, the world map will help them understand the importance of where and why. Students often struggle to understand how geographers think. This tactile classroom resource would be a fun way for them to be part of their own learning, brick by brick.

One of the best qualities of this request is that the map can be built again and again.

As we learn about the world's distribution of languages, we can build the parts of the world where a language is commonly found. We can build the boundaries of the tectonic plates as we study the Ring of Fire and consider the effects of volcanic activity. We can build global agricultural regions as we ponder the environmental impacts. We can build the world's clusters of population and study the spatial patterns. The list of fun ways to study goes on and on!
