My Students

My scholars range from PreK-3 to 8th grader. We are a Title I School and our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch. A lot of my scholars come to us with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). ACES are barriers that can impact physical development, academic growth as well as social and emotional success. Although my scholars have experienced traumatic events, they are resilient. I take pride in knowing I can make a difference in their life. More importantly, I find joy because of the impact my scholars have on my life.

As the School Counselor in a school with numerous families in transition, I recognize that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Technology can enhance social-emotional learning skills(SEL) and help them be successful in the classroom and beyond! I spend a great deal of my time with scholars in small group and individual sessions. Generally, group and individual sessions address social-emotional deficits. Many of my scholars come to school seeking a consistent and safe environment. My scholars want to learn! They excel when their toolbox is equipped with skills needed to overcome their barriers.

My Project

The laptops would allow students to grow in four key social emotional areas for excelling in school and life. When my scholars have access to technology their engagement increases. As a school counselor, I facilitate small groups with students with various learning styles. Many of my students are visual learners and enjoy participating in blended learning activities. Computers will allow the students to access computer based social emotional programs, pre/post surveys, and STEM based activities that focus on brain development. Access to technology will also provide students the capability to watch videos that can support our group discussion. Furthermore, the laptops will help our students become college and career ready by exposing them to technology outside of the classroom.
