My Students

I am a transitional kindergarten/kindergarten teacher in a general education class of 24 students. I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning the curriculum and core concepts.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and a lack of funding requires that teachers spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My students are enthusiastic learners who deserve the best education and materials to support their learning. My unique class includes English language learners, children with disabilities, transitional kindergarteners, and general education kinders. It is essential for my instructional program to support a variety of learning levels to insure that all my diverse learners can access the curriculum and experience success.

My Project

My students are becoming great writers and I want them to continue to have their own journals to keep their collection of writing samples. The Write-and-Draw journals allow the children to just pick up their journal and continue their writing. With Valentine's Day coming up, I try to incorporate writing letters to each other and creating Valentine's for their classmates during our unit on community workers. The pretend mailbox will be a fantastic addition to our post office pretend center. I am asking for several buckets of the modeling clay. Last year I taught my students about sculptures in visual arts lessons. We used clay to create animals that we had been learning about in science. At the end of the year we used the leftover clay to make dinosaurs for Open House. My kids loved it so much. I would love to have enough clay for my students to crate something amazing for the school-wide art show. I am also asking for the social studies photo library to support vocabulary development.

Most teachers will tell you that when students are engaged creatively and actively learning they will grasp concepts and demonstrate a greater ability to retain information. With your generosity, my students will have that materials they need to engage in many fun hands-on learning experiences that will help to prepare them for Kindergarten and 1st grade.
