I teach in a low income community where parents struggle to meet the basic needs for the families. This does not stop my students from showing up to school with a smile on their faces.
Despite their hardships, my students come to school every day eager to learn.
They embrace learning with positive attitudes and have truly instilled a growth mindset when it comes to difficult concepts. In the classroom, they thrive off hands-on activities that give learning meaning, but at home they have a difficult time completing homework due to lack of supplies.
Even though it may seem as if the world is against them, my students look adversity in the eye and push forward to continue to become the best they can be!
My Project
As we continue through our first year back to in-person instruction, supplies are extremely limited. We are also relearning the rules of school and proper etiquette in various settings. In order to help us, classroom prizes are a great motivator for positive reinforcement. We have also put a strong emphasis on technology, so having portable clipboards will allow us to move around the classroom and access our technology more efficiently.
We are also focusing on social emotional learning and creating several art projects geared toward our emotions.
So ,not only will these classroom supplies be used for every day use, but they will also be used by students to express their feelings on a regular basis, which is critical this year!
