Transforming Readers by Means of a Sound Wall

My Students

My students are amazing inquisitive learners! They are excited about learning and are always willing to give 100% to any task. I find joy in watching them become excited about learning! The school I work in is an urban school. We do not always have access to new resources that will assist in building successful readers.

I love that moment when my students truly understand the concept or skill being taught!

You can literally see the aha look on their faces. Learning is the key to future success and I am proud to be that person teaching them the skills and knowledge they need for their future!

My Project

The materials from Tools 4 Reading will be used to increase my students' knowledge of phonemic awareness. There are 41 speech sounds in the English language and Sound Walls arrange those sounds by their articulation. My students will easily be able to use the Sound Wall as a resource and make connections between the sound and how their mouths should look. These materials are much-needed resources when teaching phonemic awareness.

Sound Walls will support my students in retaining and learning to read unfamiliar words independently.

A sound wall is organized by speech sounds and its focus is on phonemes and articulation. Once students learn these sounds they can easily transfer their knowledge to other unfamiliar words. My students will be successful and confident readers!
