My Students

Transform students into learners of the 21st century. Most of the world is connected to one another through technology, as is learning. Many of my students do not have a computer at home to do research or play interactive learning games.

The majority of my students are language learners who learn best through videos and pictures.

Many do not get the opportunity to build world knowledge through outside experiences like museums and trips. Yet, they are all thirsty for knowledge and excited to see and experience new adventures. Our school is a low income, Title I school. The parents are willing and wanting to help in any way possible and volunteer in many ways to help their children succeed in school. Unfortunately technology is not something that many of the parents are able to obtain. I also do not have the technology in my classroom. Because of these two factors the students do not have much access or experience with technology.

My Project

Our class would benefit greatly from a Tablet. It would give all my students access to technology where they could experience and learn many new things. They could go on a safari through a far away jungle. They could swim with fish of the deep. They could walk on the moon. All of this done through Internet research, video, and pictures. A Tablet is very light and portable so groups of students could gather around it. I can also move it around the classroom to quickly help students individually or in groups at their desks. The students can use it for enrichment learning games that make math and reading fun. It can also be used for intervention, to provide those students with an easy non-threatening approach to learning. Lastly, a Tablet would make assessments easy and quick to administer on a one-to-one basis.

Having technology will open my students eyes and brains to a whole new world of learning.

It will give them easy access to things they would never have access to. It will give them a jump for their future where computers will be vital. It will transform them into learners and workers for the 21st century.
