One of the most exciting parts of my job is incorporating my creativity into each curriculum unit, each lesson, each activity. I remember my own schooling experience and what I've held onto most were the hands-on and immersive lessons.
I have been able to "transform" my student's learning and allow them to enter new worlds.
I have never seen my students as engaged as when they enter their classroom to find a completely transformed and decorated room filled with academic games and activities. With the materials I requested, I will create themed room transformations that will introduce new academic concepts, review previously taught material, and prepare for state achievement tests.
I am planning to transform my room four times. To teach my students force and motion, we will enter a Nascar race track. To teach my students about rocks, minerals, and weathering, my students will come across a Jurassic Park dig site. To review for the ELA state test, they will rise to the challenge at the Big Top Circus Games. To review certain math concepts, they will work in a sweet shoppe where they will have to divide and multiply and work with fractions.
