My Students

Every day is new and different in so many ways in my classroom. I want to take my students as far as they are able to go academically by the end of second grade. I want them to be ready to enter third grade with confidence.

Our second grade classroom consists of 23 eager-to-learn students and one enthusiastic teacher waiting to meet the needs of each of my students. My 23 students represent a diverse population with varying learning levels. Some of my students need daily intervention while others need daily enrichment. I have high expectations for each student, meeting them where they are in their life journeys and at their educational levels.

My school consists of about 1,200 students of diverse backgrounds and diverse learning abilities. We have a growing population of ELL students, students we implement interventions for in reading and math, as well as students needing enrichment to acquire success for their educational needs. Our school has an amazing administration and staff who are dedicated to meeting each of these diverse needs and providing a warm, nurturing, and respectful environment.

My Project

We need items to create a construction zone, pizzeria, and surgery center to transform our classroom into a brand new space to increase student engagement. We also need one more Ozobot to complete our set with each group having one Ozobot.

When students are engaged in the learning process, they learn more and the learning sticks with them.

As a teacher, I strive to choose activities that engage my students. Room transformations are one way to excite the students and engage them in the learning process. The standing chalkboard will be used in front of the classroom door to advertise the transformation. The doctors masks, gloves, shower caps, and coat will be used in the grammar surgery transformation. The tablecloths and aprons will be used for the pizzeria transformation using math skills. The construction signs, cones, and vests will be used to transform the room into a construction zone for a building words transformation. The cash register and food will help transform the room into an economical room ready to learn about scarcity, money, needs and wants, as well as other topics. The red aisle runner and disco ball will help transform our room into a runway to study adjectives. These activities hook the students, get them excited about learning, wanting more, and help them recall what they learned at a later time.
