Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In this project-based learning initiative, our art students are taking on the role of designers and curators to transform a blank classroom into a welcoming and supportive space known as the ISLA Room. This room is designated for students who need extra behavioral support, and this room will provide them with a calm and inviting environment to reset, refocus, and thrive.

With a nature-inspired theme, our students are incorporating elements that promote relaxation and comfort.

The storage unit will house essential supplies and books for the students. On top they will be adding decor from the ceramics students. A cozy rug will create a warm, inviting atmosphere, while the lights will add a soft, glowing ambiance. Each of these items are to foster a sense of peace, comfort and well being for those students who use the space. This project is helping my art students apply their artistic skills and the impact intentional design has on emotions and behaviors. By transforming the ISLA Room, they are creating a space where students can feel safe, supported, and ready to grow.
