Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a Title One school located in Los Angeles County where most of our students come from low-income households. Ninety-three percent of the students receive free lunch. My students are not only diverse in their cultural backgrounds but also, in their learning styles.

My class is an Autism Special Education class.

My students are in the third and fourth grade. Of my students, ninety percent are English Learners and receive services such as speech, occupational therapy, and social-emotional therapy. My students are awesome! They are eager to learn.

My Project

I am teaching an extraordinary group of students. They're incredibly resilient and have shaped the way I think about education and life. Our Title One school strives to give our students every opportunity for success that it can, but sometimes, there are factors out of our control.

This Apple iPad and its accessories will allow me to reach my students in the way I deliver direct interactive instruction and the way students present their projects.

As a special education teacher, I need to find ways to keep my students engaged in their learning. While our curriculum provides an online option for most subjects, the school computer does not have touchscreen capabilities that would allow me to use it while walking and engaging with students. The iPad would also allow students to make short videos (presentations) allowing them to express themselves.

Your contribution to this project would have an enormous impact on my autistic students. It would help them with their communication by practicing their presentations before they present.
