Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In collaboration with Indigenous Education, we are creating project-based units that highlight notable Native leaders and ask students to consider how they are leaders in their communities. One important form of leadership is environmental stewardship. To help students think critically about traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), we will read "Braiding Sweetgrass for Young Adults: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants", discuss and act on our learning.

The fate of our planet will be guided by today's students, and this book will help students learn to care for mother earth and all of its amazing living things.

This informational text about the importance of reciprocity, the beauty of our planet, the deep wisdom of indigenous teachings, and the importance of environmental stewardship. In this unit, students will engage with this text, learn from local elders, and take action to protect their local environments.
