My Students

My students are part of the middle school track team. The students on my team come from a low income neighborhood in the Bronx, where our track is the city streets. Many kids on the team cannot afford the right running sneakers or the weather appropriate clothes needed to run on a team. These kids practice 3 times a week in the hot, cold, rain and snow, as well as give up their weekends to go to races. The students are dedicated and motivated to grow in their training.

My Project

The track students have been working very hard on growing their running skills. When we go to track meets in the warm weather the kids are not dressed in clothing that is correct for the sport. This holds them back physically but also emotionally. Having these uniforms will let them race better and reward them for their hard work. The kids were gifted new sneakers from a generous donor and were very grateful and excited. To now have the clothing would change their training and success and remind them that there are wonderful people in the world that support them.
