My Students

Houston ISD is a large urban school district with a very diverse student population. Our high school draws students from all over the district. We specifically focus on getting students to improve their STEM skills by having a strong focus on Engineering, Science, and Math.

At EIHS, we use project based learning to give our students an opportunity to experience their subjects with hands-on activities.

This develops our students' inventive skills, challenging them to develop experiments and projects using their own unique experiences and knowledge.

EIHS is currently in it's 5th year. I am in my second year here. We are only in the 3rd year of teaching physics at EIHS and in need of additional of lab equipment to help my students experience the laws of physics using current technology.

My Project

While studying kinematics (the math of motion) it is important to learn how to collect data using current state of the art data collection devices.

The students will use the pulleys to design experiments allowing them to track velocity and acceleration using motion detectors and photogates.

The friction pads allow the students to see the impacts of friction on the mation of a cart.

Being able to perform these experiments with these devices helps the students get a greater understanding of kinematics by giving a true experiential tie to what the mathematical equations represent.

The parts being purchased through this campaign help expand the use of some equipment we already use in our labs. In particular, they will help improve the accuracy and speed of data collection.
