My Students

Last year we won second place. This year District Champions is the goal. Over the past three years, the track team has grown from a fledgling team to a true contender at every meet. "If you want to change your body, exercise. If you want to change your life, become a runner."

The thirty-five students on this track and field team all have different problems in their life but they come together as one team on the track.

They attend a school where over ninety-five percent of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Obstacles such as drugs, violence and broken families are a common. Every year we struggle just to have kids in the proper running shoes. Despite these obstacles, they have become a winning team and one to be reckoned with. They have good hearts and the will and drive to become the best student-athlete.

My Project

These runners have such passion and determination and I want to make sure that they have everything they need to be successful. The track meets last for hours on Saturdays so we also make sure the runners have sandwiches, fruits, snacks and water for proper nutrition and hydration throughout the day. All of these materials such as duffle bags, a cooler and girls batons will help in the endeavor of giving these students the confidence, skills and resources they need to be the District champions this year.

The donations for this project will assist the track team in the goal of making student-athletes that will become leaders in the school.

These students will now have everything they need to succeed, as well as the skills to continue running track in the future. With the love and passion they have for track, they will continue running and develop discipline, leadership and determination.
