Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal. I am a pre-k teacher in the Bronx. My students are mostly from low income families and are working hard to make ends meet. They often do not have available funds to spend on educationally sound materials for their children. I am trying hard to give them the very best education that I possibly can. I am requesting materials that we could use in the classroom to enhance their education. Storytelling kits are used to bring beloved children's books to life. The children are fascinated by the colors and pictures on these cloth figures. We read the stories and use the figures to retell the story. Storytelling is an essential part of pre-k and reading readiness. I believe these materials will enhance my students' performance in language skills, reading comprehension and help build critical thinking skills. A storytelling apron goes with the kits. The pieces stick right onto the apron to keep interest and involvement high. I am in need of photo cards that are designed to promote language development and increase logical thinking. The skill building cards have large, enticing color images that children will naturally love talking about. The cards are used to identify rhyming words, pair up opposites, things that go together and things that do not belong. The cards can be used with a small group or with the entire class. The cards will be used to target a specific skill. I am requesting a color maze. This skill building maze gives children an irresistible, hands-on way to explore colors. It has eight built in "paint cans" plus magnetic balls in eight different colors. Children will use the magnetic wand to guide the balls through the maze and they can drop them into their matching paint cans. This game will build color recognition and fine motor control. Lastly, I am requesting a counting maze. This maze will help the children recognize and practice counting. It will also teach them number recognition. The maze has ten built in gumball machines and has an attached wand to move the balls through the maze. The children will love dropping the balls off into the correct gumball machine. Children learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. I want to thank you for believing in children enough to read this proposal. Exposure to learning early in a child's life is the key to a future filled with better educated adults.
