Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school community has suffered tragic and devastating losses for reasons that never should have occurred. A global pandemic, racial tension, and rioting kept people in their homes and forced them to very quickly adapt to remote learning, oftentimes without devices or working internet. Yet my students and their families not only adapted, but they also thrived, despite living in the poorest congressional district in the nation. The staff banded together and gave away every laptop we had so that our students had a fighting chance. Now, more than ever, we need more technology in the classroom so that students can interact with each other and with their remote-learning peers to keep rich conversations around social justice, becoming advocates for themselves and others and of course, mathematics going. A unique program we use to supplement classroom instruction is called iReady. Through iReady lessons, students are exposed to tasks that require them to think abstractly and reasonably, become fluent in mathematical discourse, and learn to defend their answers with sound explanations. Data is then analyzed in real time and given back to students and teachers which then allows for immediate adjustment in instruction.

My Project

Using the pop-its, students will have hands on practice with multiplication and division facts up to 144! These fidget toys are all the rage and I believe that using them in an educational way will help students get excited about studying!

Now that we are back to 100% in-person instruction, we need to be as creative as possible in keeping our kids engaged, socially distanced and SAFE.

Last year's donations went A LONG way but now with larger classes, we need some more headphones to make a class set! THANK YOU!
