Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
All my students have severe special needs but function on a high level. They are limited by their inability to communicate their wants and needs. This is frustrating and leads to severe behavior outbursts. They may not comprehend the world in the way other students do, but they are bright, curious, and function well within their own world. The thing I like best about my students is there is no guile. If they are happy, they are happy. If they are sad, the tears are real. If angry, it's true anger, and once the emotion has passed, it is gone and there is no memory.
My Project
My students are high-functioning autistic young men and women aged 17-22 who have other learning challenges such as visual impairment, lack of mobility, and the need for sensory stimulation.
The items requested meet their needs for sensory stimulation, and tactile learning opportunities.
Students can use their senses to touch, build and feel math, language arts, science, and social studies lessons presented in the classroom. Students can use blocks to represent numbers, tactile letters to spell and sensory sand to build shapes.
A multi-sensory approach utilizes the skills they have as they navigate high school-age curriculum.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
