My Students

My students work hard for their opportunities to find ways to accomplish a goal. My students have different disabilities and would love the opportunity to access technology.

I want my students to have multiple opportunities to increase their engagement in the curriculum and enhance their learning.

I want them to be able to personalize their learning experiences to fit their individual needs when leaving the high school environment. Living in a low socioeconomic areas limits our students' opportunities to see the latest technological devices that could be future careers. The world of work is changing and we need to educate and show our students that by thinking outside the box we can establish a way of living.

My Project

All of our students want to learn to use the latest technologies. My students have difficulties accessing these technologies due to physical disabilities, limited economic opportunities in the home and in our school environment.

In class, the iPad will provide the opportunity for the kids to research in the classroom comfortably.

This will help them with the basic idea of information being accessed at our fingertips. It also will help to build the self-esteem that they need. iPad's are great for students because they can practice fine motor skills on their own, get comfortable and then access the network system with wifi to upload the information they found. As they progress, they will be able to do team and independent work to build interconnected skills and be able to practice socialization by sharing/discussing the information they found.

We will be able to take the iPad with us when we travel and access it into any wifi system throughout the school.

The iPad will play many roles in the program for the students. First and foremost, it will give all students a chance to access information at their fingertips in class without sensory overload. They can control the volume while they play, use headphones to block out other noises, and continue to research without the other distractions. This will enhance the environment not only in the classroom but on their own self-esteem level.
