My Project

Boomwhackers are a colorful, fun, hands-on way for students to learn about the elements of music such as beat, melody, harmony, and texture. Students can also look at the length of the tubes and begin to learn about the connection between instrument length and the pitch produced.

Boomwhackers are a fun musical instrument for students to learn to work cooperatively to balance their sound with the whole class group or in smaller independent student composition groups!

Unfortunately most of the boomwhackers at my new school are in such poor playing condition, that there are not enough of any particular pitch tube to be able to effectively use them. Hence, the need for us to go "Totally Tubular!"

With your donation to this project, we'll have 5 octave sets of boom tubes, complete with the "octavator caps," providing enough instruments to use with an entire classroom. Boomwhackers provide a terrific way to build musicianship and teamwork. As students become more adept at playing, they begin to listen to hear every note of the chord being tapped out, and can easily recognize if tubes are being tapped in time with one another or have fallen out of sync. The more students play these fun instruments, the more their ensemble skills improve, and the more collective pride they take in their ability to make beautiful music as part of a team.
