My Students

My students love to learn about music through hands-on learning activities. They explore the elements of music by singing, moving, playing, and creating their own music. They develop 21st century skills of communication and creative problem solving when they work together in small groups to create their own music and dance.

My students come from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds, but they all share certain things in common: they love inquiring into the world around them through the power of story and song.

They all love a good story, enjoy singing and playing games, and learning about the world through music and dance. Their inquisitive nature and playful spirit continually inspire me!

My Project

High quality instruments are a must for students who are learning the joy of creating music! My students need durable, beautiful-sounding drums that can hold up to student use and produce consistent tones no matter the weather or humidity. That's exactly what these REMO tunable tubanos provide!

My students will enjoy sharing in the groove with these well-built REMO tubanos!

My students like learning rhythms from other parts of the world, as well as creating their own rhythms. With three different sizes of tubanos, each one creating its own set of tones, these drums will sound amazing together! They are perfect for use with Wil Schmid's World Music Drumming Curriculum, which I use with my upper elementary and middle school music classes.

A chief component of my curriculum is a focus on the life skills learned through drumming: teamwork, cooperation, listening, and self-awareness. Students learn how to work together when composing their own rhythms and playing interlocking parts with one another. They learn to listen to one another and value each other's contributions. Drumming helps students become more present in their bodies and self-regulate their thoughts and emotions. When drumming is part of my music lesson, students experience a communal bond with each other and where everyone leaves class with a smile on their face!
