Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diligent and attend a top high school in Manhattan. Most want to become doctors and attend a medical assisting program at NYU or Columbia. One or two have decided to become lawyers, and one already attends Columbia on Saturdays to prepare for the career path.

We are bringing a famous human rights advocate to the school, and we want to purchase a book for each one of our students in our World Literature class for 10th graders.

The human rights advocate is Yeonmi Park. She escaped from North Korea. We need about 100 books.

My students are special needs students.

I have taught for ten years as a professor overseas and am now transitioning into public school teaching.

Any support is welcome!

My Project

We are a World Literature course and we are studying work by authors old and current. We have a Gen Ed teacher who is bar none talented and has taught this curriculum for over fifteen years, and a special educator (me) who has worked with multicultural literature and multilingual curriculum worldwide for ten years.

We are a low-income school with a high percentage of extremely gifted students.

We are creating future doctors and lawyers at the High School of Health Professions and Human Services. 70 percent of our students are women and fifty percent are Hispanic.

The High School of Health Professions and Human Services is highly DEDICATED to culturally responsive education.

Please help me give my students a gift that will change their lives and help them experience a whole different world.
