Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

All students love a classroom where they can create, engage and be treated and treasured! My students are caring and courageous! They love to provide cheer and treasures for those in need. This project will give my students access to the tools, treats and treasures to create awesome designs that they can decorate along with their peers to show school spirit, engage in active learning, give to those students in need and collaborate with their peers!

My students speak both English and Spanish and come from low socio-economic communities and artistic expression is an excellent way to create positive classroom culture, teach students compassion for others and provide student engagement!

Our school is a Leader in Me school and Habit 8 is "Finding Your Voice". Habit 8 teaches students to see the needs in others and meet the need by using their strengths. There are many students in our school community that lack basic food and supplies. Students will be able to create "take home bags" for those in needs that include treats, treasures and encouraging cards. The markers, stickers, notebooks and glue will allow students to plan, design and implement their ideas in creative and meaningful ways. The laminating sheets will ensure that their art lasts through the school year and the crayon boxes keep their materials safe. Chips, poptarts, and other snacks will provide incentives for students and options for students who need extra food.

Students will use their journals for discussion, small groups and other grade level activities! Funding this project will allow my students to fully and actively engage in creating classroom culture that is a mural of their choices and creativity and focused on compassion!
