Tools to Release Learner's Energy

My Students

All children should have the same opportunities as their peers. Students at-risk often don't receive them, especially those who face learning disabilities. These students are fully capable of learning and understanding grade-level concepts; however, they just learn differently.

My students all come from a diverse town in northern Virginia.

Many of my students come from single family homes and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Currently, I teach students in a resource room as a fifth grade teacher.

My Project

My fifth grade students enjoy playing different sports outside during recess; however, we have limited playground equipment that are available to them. This project will give each fifth grade classroom a bag that each includes a soccer ball, kickball and basketball, which will allow the fifth graders to release their energy during a structured time.

Unfortunately, recess is only 20 minutes long at our school.

They also only participate in PE class twice a week. Research supports that many learners benefit from movement throughout the school day. The wiggle cushions, stools, and standing desks will give the students an opportunity to make choices where they will be the best learner they can be.
