Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from the New York metropolitan area with families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. They attend a school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My students are dedicated and hard-working.

They come to school ready to tackle new challenges. Many of my students require extra support accessing the curriculum due to challenges with reading and writing. Despite requiring additional support in the classroom, my students are incredibly motivated to meet their goals.

My Project

My students often use reading passages to target their reading comprehension and writing goals. They utilize pencils (provided by their teachers) to annotate the material. Having highlighters and colored pens would allow the students to color code their annotations (i.e., main idea = red, supporting details = yellow).

The new writing tools will allow my students to independently complete tasks and answer written response questions since their materials will be organized and easy to understand.

The shredder would allow me to keep my students' data confidential. As a related service provider, I collect plenty of data that contains identifying information (i.e., first and last name), which allows me to see how my students have progressed each quarter. I keep the data locked in a filing cabinet because I don't have a way to dispose of their files. The shredder would allow me to shred files and documents that are no longer necessary all while protecting my students' confidentiality.
