Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every child is special and deserves a space where they can cultivate and nurture the uniqueness that lies within them. Finding the "Who am I?" is often a challenge for adolescents and they often find themselves lacking the skills needed to navigate the journey. The Mindfulness Space that I am seeking to create will offer my students opportunities to support this journey.

I would like to provide a physical space filled with items such as bubble timers that will add to the creation of an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

I also feel a sound machine would add to creating a calming energy and drown out external distractions, which would allow my students the ability to focus and be present in the moment, while visiting the Mindfulness Space. I would also like to equip the room with comfortable seating options, allowing the body, as well as the mind to relax and breathe. Mindfulness games, puzzles, fidgets, coloring books and drawing pads that would encourage my students to explore their creative nature are also on my wish list. Also, books, books, books to encourage reading and help my students develop strategies that will assist them in developing appropriate coping and self-regulation skills, when they are confronted with stress and feelings of anxiety. I definitely don't want to forget Theo the Therapy Dog and Charlie the Puppy, that are tangible items that may serve as a comfort when my students may be feeling anxious. And lastly, it would be helpful to have lavender scented multi-purpose cleaners, to keep our Mindfulness Space clean and at the same time, fill the room with a calming aroma.

Again, every child is special and deserves a space that will help them learn to cultivate and nurture their uniqueness and find their place in this world.
