Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our Robotics Team's goal for 2019 is to spread their passion for STEM to their community and beyond! "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -B. Franklin

Our Robotics Team 968 has won 8 Regionals, 1 Championship, and countless awards for their engineering and community engagement.

Our students come from a wide variety of households with many of them being the first to go to college in their families. Our school's diversity of backgrounds helps to create a collaborative community. We place focus on grades and STEM and provide structure to those who many not receive such attention elsewhere. We strive to provide high school students with opportunities to experience real world engineering through robotics. Every year, our students are given 6 weeks to build a robot to fulfill a task at the competition. As the varsity sport for the mind, our FRC Robotics team competes in the excitement of sport, with the rigors of science and technology. We challenge our students to build and program a robot to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get.

My Project

With new tools, students can use more advance manufacturing methods to create more creative and ambitious STEM projects to learn from, by having these tools and resources to accommodate rookies and give every student the chance to help manufacturing. With the new Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program, we have many new people interested in joining our team. By having more resources, we will be able to provide them all with an in-depth learning experience.

We will work as a team, meeting challenges creatively and collaboratively, all while using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) related skills.

Perhaps more importantly than the hands-on experience, will be the non-technology skills we will develop--the leadership, problem solving, and everyday life skills that will prepare us for our futures.

At the end of the day, it will be more than building robots, and more than building our skills, it will be about sharing our story. Sharing what we are capable of doing, and allowing us to inspire others in our community that by working together, we solve problems and build great things!

We would have applied engineering, science, math, and technology to solve complex, open-ended problems in a real-world context. All while developing highly transferable skills in collaboration, communication, and critical thinking, which are relevant for STEM careers. Please help provide resources that can help us become the next generation of STEM professionals. We would be actively promoting STEM within our community starting in our own high school.
