Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year my students will be my first full class - 120 eighth graders - to spend their entire middle school experience during COVID. They spent all of sixth grade in remote or hybrid instruction and all of seventh grade in the craziness of bringing back in-person instruction with COVID protocols. Needless to say, their learning experiences have been dramatically different than pre-COVID middle schoolers. Their needs are different. Their stamina is different. Their focus is different. They need more support to motivate them to work hard and learn.

I am requesting classroom tools like graphing sticky notes, reference posters, and inspirational posters which will give the academic and emotional support to help them focus, get answers to questions they may have, and find motivation to keep trying when they feel overwhelmed in the classroom.

Creating a nurturing, safe, and inspiring classroom space and having the tools to work smarter rather than harder are key to math class success in these challenging times.
