My Students

I service 34 students within a school in Williamsburg Brooklyn. While all of my students from prekindergarten to fifth grade have speech and language needs, they have vast range of needs.

Language is the medium of the schools and children who have a speech and language disorder have more difficultly accessing the curriculum than their peers.

This year, the majority of my students are under 6 years old. This is such a critical time to provide them with support. Students who receive this early intervention have the best chances of graduating from speech and language therapy and having successful academic careers.

My Project

Many of my students are under the age of 6. During this critical time we are building foundational language skills which they are expected to know in the classroom. They need tools such as sequencing cards and story telling frames which will help develop early narrative skills. Other items such as prepositional materials will help them follow directives in and outside the classroom.

Building foundational language skills will help students excel in their class and provide them the confidence to express themselves in school and beyond.

Without them it will become increasingly more difficult to for students to get their point across and communicate with others.

Foundational language skills include prepositions, phonemic awareness, vocabulary building, story telling, sequencing, and comprehension. Without these early language skills students quickly fall behind in their academics. These tools with help support our students and provide them skills and confidence that they will carry over into the classroom and into their homes.
