Tools For Word Work Practice

My students need Etch a Sketch boards and Magna Doodle boards to practice writing sight words.

My Students

Students in my class are bright, excited, and eager to learn. More than half of my students are English Language Learners or come from families living in extreme poverty situations. The children enjoy learning in a variety of ways and benefit most from hands on materials that let them experience, problem solve, and create independently. I would like to offer more opportunities to learn using an array of materials. Anytime something new or different is introduced, student engagement and excitement rises.

My Project

My students would benefit from using an Etch A Sketch or Magna Doodle board to practice spelling sight words or writing sentences in a new and fun way! These tools would help me make spelling practice or sight word practice more exciting and engaging. Students need constant practice with spelling words to become proficient. However, routine practice with paper and pencil isn't very engaging. Etch A Sketch boards and Magna Doodles would help increase excitement over a task that is potentially unexciting. These tools would also provide a way to practice that is new and innovative to them. Because of their backgrounds, most of my students haven't had the opprotunity to experience childhood favorites such as an Etch A Sketch or Magna Doodle.
