Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title One school with about five hundred students. The majority of our student population is Latino and African-American, many of whom reside in temporary housing facilities in the South Bronx. Our student population is comprised of over one hundred students who have special needs and ninety-eight percent of our students are eligible for free lunch. Despite these odds and challenging circumstances, our students come to school each day and are encouraged to see our school's vision, which is for all of our students to "Be our best, love learning and inspire the world!" With a continued perspective on strong instructional practices and improving students' outcomes, we are focusing on supporting our students' academic, social, and emotional growth and development. This focus is important in that we believe students learn best through regular interactions with adults who know them well, in a supportive and safe environment.

My Project

With so much uncertainty in the world of education right now, teachers find themselves in a state of limbo. Educators are not sure if they will be in the building, teaching in-person, or at home, teaching remotely. We must be ready to react at a moment's notice.

I have chosen educational gift cards so I can purchase items that will help me to continually provide my students with rigorous, rich, standard based curriculum, whether in person or virtual.

The gift cards I have requested will allow me to provide my students with digital access to materials they truly need.
