Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the ENL (English as a New Language) population at a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. These students are bright and eager to learn. For some of them, this is their first experience in school in America! They learn best through experiential and hands-on projects and are fascinated with learning about and through technology.

Our school is a barrier free school, and we work hard to give every student the tools they need to succeed!

Our English Language Learners are approximately 10% of our school population this year and 33% of our population are students with disabilities.

My Project

Language Learners and students with Special Needs are proven to understand concepts better when supplied with visuals and other scaffolds. As our school believes in an inclusive setting for all of our students, we strive to make the curriculum easily accessible to all types of learners.

An iPad would provide visual and interactive scaffolds to help my students access the concepts being taught in their classrooms.

Students will be able to access pictures, translation software, graphic organizers, and more while being able to interact with their peers during the lesson. Having a laminator will also make these visuals reusable from class to class; reducing waste and creating cohesion between lessons! Highlighters, sharpies, dry erase markers and handheld mirrors will also provide on the spot scaffolding for students, so that each lesson can be exactly curtailed to what each student needs!
