Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a targeted group of minority students who are facing behavioral, academic, and/or socio-emotional challenges. My goal is to provide support in these areas so that they not only pass their classes and ensure they can graduate but also build soft skills and character traits that will make them successful in the real world.

Building literacy and teaching students how to use their resources are skills that will support students in becoming lifelong learners and successful adults.

Not many of my students like to read, but maybe it's because they are often obligated to read and they don't have books to read for pleasure. The books from this project are popular and may spark an interest in reading. I asked students what specific books they'd like to request. My lessons include a lot of reflections, journaling, and mindfulness and gratitude exercises so these books/journals are for students who'd like to dive deeper into these topics.

The activity book would be a great resource on strategies to embed to create stronger relationships and encourage teamwork. Lastly, I have many students who are athletes, and many students who are kinesthetic learners. The walking pad would allow for flexibility in completing their tasks or reading while "walking." The snacks will serve as treats for them to enjoy. Thank you for considering my project.
