Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an Occupational Therapist at a community school (grades k-5) in the North Bronx, students are continuously benefiting from a variety of supports in therapy and in the classroom setting. These supports allow for improved functioning throughout the day. The classrooms that I work in are self-contained, integrated and general ed. Generally, the students that I work with either have autism, learning disability or ADHD and often need specific support to improve function in and out of the classroom. Some have sensory needs, some students have core/upper body weakness, and others have difficulty focusing.

With the support of these materials, students will have the opportunity to fully access their learning.

My Project

These items will help students develop skills that help with classroom and everyday performance. Students will love to play various games while improving visual and fine motor skills. It will allow for the therapy room to be a more creative, fun space within the framework of the school environment. Students can set up obstacle courses and have more opportunities to expand on movement in the therapy room.

Students will enjoy and improve sensory skills to have opportunities to explore new tactile textures through the Gonge River set, sensory brushes, bins, and fidgets.

Students will find more ways to improve on pencil grip through use of pop beads and form board puzzles to place pieces in.
