Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of creative young people from all over New York City. This year my students will conceptualize, design, and build sculptural pieces that will tap into their critical thinking skills, creative problem solving abilities, while combining mathematical concepts to create artistic pieces. They will also have the chance to be mentored by professional artists and makers while learning skill and techniques. With the money we receive we will design a makers space, with furniture and equipment to help them bring their ideas to fruition.

My Project

I am now in the process of supplying our new makers space with tools and materials for my students to use.

I plan to work with a professional wood carving artist to teach my students how to use hand carving tools, and power tool to create reliefs sculptures as a part of art this year.

Students will be exposed to creative use of Science, Math and Engineering concepts while developing new skills. Learning to use the tools will also expose students to new creative processes as well a new career paths they can pursue.
