Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my school setting, our students could benefit greatly from new tools to support their function in their classrooms.

I’ve compiled a short wish list of tools that would help our students thrive in their learning environments.

1. Due to a lack of accessible keyboards at out high school, I would like a wireless keyboard and mouse for every classroom in our site. Having access to this in class will allow my students the ability to work on functional technology skills, help make lessons more interactive and allowing for greater carryover of typing skills. This is also a helpful tool for improving social skills and peer to peer interactions as they pass around the tools during lessons.

2. Each class needs their own regulation tools to help students feel more comfortable, like a vibrating pillow and batteries for calming/grounding proprioceptive input, wobbly feet for chairs for alerting vestibular input, as well as noise cancelling headphones to help students cope with unexpected and stressful experiences throughout the day. These items will allow for a more conducive and neuroaffirming learning environment.

3. A scooter designed for adult sized bodies that can be used during individual OT and PT sessions.
