My Students

Help me bring science, social studies, math and literacy to life for my Kindergarten-1st grade students. As ELLs, my students need hands-on experience to build background knowledge in all content areas.

As their English as a Second Language teacher it is my job to create learning experiences that link English to the content of the classroom.

These learning materials will help me do just that by bringing the content to life. Our school is a small charter school in Minnesota. The school is 70-75% English Language Learners, most students speak Hmong or Karen as their first language. The students I work with are in Kindergarten and 1st grade, and they are excited to learn and be at school. They need plenty of opportunities to engage with each other in learning about science, social studies and math concepts while building confidence in English.

My Project

As a teacher who moves throughout the school, I am quickly learning that it is essential to stay incredibly organized. I am requesting the bins, totes, and whiteboard in order to help organize the resources, materials and student work I use each day. The apple pointer will be used not only by me, but also the students to point to items, words, pictures and letters on the white board and magnetic calendar. I requested science tools in order to bring to life the science concepts we study in Kindergarten and 1st grade such as plants, animals, weather, and life cycles. In one of my groups we planted a bean 3 weeks ago and the students have been observing its growth. We've all been amazed at the progress the plant has made in just three weeks, but it would be awesome to have magnifying glasses to make precise observations to record in their science journals. The math and literacy materials I requested will be useful as I continue to support my newcomer student's learning.
