Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is uncertain whether schools will remain close or re-open with restrictions this upcoming fall due to COVID-19. Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school/community, I see how my students are faced with daily challenges. These challenges include poverty, poor health, and parents who may be unable to afford resources such as books, computers, or even family weekend activities that would create positive learning experiences for them.

I want to be able to keep providing my students instruction and a sense of normalcy.

This upcoming fall I will be teaching a first-grade class formed with 14 girls and 10 boys whose parents may not have the financial resources or time available to provide them with the tools and material needed to prepare them for distance learning.

My Project

As a result of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, schools had to closed down the entirety of the remaining 2019-2020 academic year. It is uncertain if school will be able to re-open for the 2020-2021 academic year. Since schools closed in March due to COVID-19, many families have struggled to help their children adjust to distance learning. Their difficulties include navigating unfamiliar educational websites and not having the necessary tools to continue learning at home.

How can I continue to support my students who learn and think differently during distance learning?

I want to continue giving my students rich and complex lessons. Lessons that incorporate best practice to help them thrive during distance learning. The set of headphones will help my students access my lessons a little easier and use them to stay engage, to be creative and to keep collaborating with their peers even if it is from home.
