My Students

I teach at an elementary school in Brooklyn, and all of my students receive free school lunch. Our kids are smart, interested, and eager to learn and do things!

Over the past several years I have run a Gardening Club, and we have done tremendous work in the green areas surrounding the school, which basically used to look like sandpits and garbage dumps.

Creating and maintaining huge gardens is a never-ending task, one that we are happy to take on, but we are always in need of mulch in order to get the job done. This year I will be the new "Farm to Table" teacher, so I will be able to focus entirely on farming and cooking. This will afford me more time to work with students in the garden, but sadly no budget for necessary supplies so I turn to you in order to make our gardening dreams a reality!

My Project

Most gardens usually require additional mulch from year to year to replace the mulch that has been washed away from rain, snow, etc. We like to use mulch in our garden, as we feel it is more "green" that growing and maintaining a lawn. Since last year we have lost a lot of our mulch, and now we have basically nothing down as ground cover, causing us to deal with loads of nasty weeds. We have recently expanded our garden, so we are also in need of mulch to cover those new areas as well.

Our gardens have come a long way since we started, but in order to maintain our beautiful perennial green spaces we need mulch, mulch, and more mulch!

I can't wait to start my new "Farm to Table" position at the school, and I know that my students love gardening and all that comes along with it. I have the willing and able students, and now more time to get the work done, so all that's missing is the mulch! Thank you for your interest and commitment to public education!
