it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the joys of teaching AP Lit is being able to share books that move and excite us. These books allow us to create and sustain conversations with our students about the big questions in humanity: how do we become who we are? what sustains families and communities? how do we understand our past?
Tom Lake by Anne Patchett is an excellent novel that digs into these questions in a way that is both beautiful and compelling.
Being able to share this novel will give us a shared text to talk about our place in the world and it is a perfect text to use on the AP Literature Exam.
One reason it's so apt is that the Thornton Wilder play Our Town figures so prominently in the plot. This will give us a chance to think about literary allusions and how texts work in conversation with each other.
