My students need a collection of novels that builds character through tolerance.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Waters's classroom raised $771
This project is fully funded
My Students
I am fortunate to teach both English and Language Arts, as well as Social Studies to an energetic, and enthusiastic group of fifth grade students. Our school is located in a large urban city. Our school is Title 1 funded, meaning that one hundred percent of the student population receives free lunch. The neighboring community is economically disadvantaged.
"I am GREAT-My education will make me even greater!
This is a line from an affirmation that my awe inspiring fifth graders recite on a regular basis. Though their living environment may be unfortunate at times and their communities are impoverished, they arrive in my classroom every single day with hope, promise and with an opportunity to BE GREAT!!
My Project
My students simply love to read! They enjoy the fine art of literature! Having novels to read that explores the various forms of tolerance from our ancestors, and from powerful individuals such as Anne Frank, would enrich their lives immensely.
Living in a community where there are vacant houses, weed infested lots, and impoverished conditions can give a child a sense of hopelessness.
But my brilliant, shining stars tend to rise above it all. They come to school each and every day eager to learn and explore new experiences by reading personal accounts of the heroes and heroines before us!
I would love for them to be exposed to novels that highlight various forms of tolerance through the years.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
