My Students

Welcome to the fun-filled world of my first-grade students! Every day is an adventure with a room filled with 22 students who walk in each morning with their eyes bright with excitement as they wonder what adventure awaits them today! First grade is a year filled with all kinds of new feats! Feats of learning to read, learning to add and subtract, to become scientists, and see how they are a small but mighty part of the world around them!

There is a tangible sense of anticipation as we discuss what we will be learning about and especially about how we will be accomplishing these activities!

They are excited and eager to jump in, explore, and conquer the world! They are a power source of unlimited energy, kindness, laughter, smiles, and potential! These are 6-year-old students who literally come alive at the mention of paint, rulers, and linking cubes! They thrill at the chance to run, play, and make new friends. They work hard at trying to figure out new ideas, know that making mistakes is okay, and strive to do their very best every day!

My Project

Children who are given opportunities to imagine and explore can soar in their potential to think outside the box. These items are specifically chosen so that the students in my class can take apart, put together, work together, build, and of course dream!

Together as a class community, we are better as see each other's strengths, include everyone, and learn to look for the good in each other!

As children work together using these manipulatives they will build friendships and learn how to get along with others, share ideas, and find compromises.

One other aspect of this project is that it exposes children to different ways that people look, have discussions about different families and cultures, and see similarities that people share rather than their differences.
