My Project

As a STEM teacher in a 3K/PreK center in the South Bronx, I get the privilege of serving and learning from the best and brightest toddler scientists. While they already enjoy coming to the STEM room to explore and experiment, additional supplies would take the learning, exploration and experimentation to the next level.

The Air Toobz toy would extend and deepen their understanding of the power of wind and the uses of tubes and tunnels, a prominent unit in our Creative Curriculum.

The microscopes would accompany the singular microscope I have to allow more children the opportunity to use the microscope to get a fascinating look at everyday items super close up from a perspective they can't see with the naked eye.

The bug specimens would provide a range of excellent natural materials to view up close with the microscopes that they would otherwise only be able to see in pictures.

After hesitantly introducing a marble run in the STEM room to 3K and PreK students, I was pleasantly surprised at how mature each student handled the marbles. The growth in perseverance in building marble run structures and problem solving blew me away. However, our current marble run was so well loved many pieces have broken and this would replace our current one that only has a few pieces left.

The terrariums would allow me to add more live creatures to the classroom other than our fish tank for students to explore, handle and study like worms and pill bugs.

My goal for this project is to supplement the inaccessibility (financial and travel) of the Bronx children's museum experience for our families by providing it in our school community for free. These items would enhance the learning that students have in the STEM room and give them experiences they deserve.
