Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are building a brand new Engineering Lab and need your help! Our Engineers in Brooklyn, NY are on their way to becoming our future leaders of this world. Each class in our school will be learning, creating, and collaborating in our new lab! Students at PS 145 will benefit from your donations--we will be using the supplies requested (building bricks, building blocks, straw builders, play-doh, popsicle sticks, tape, etc.) to complete different design challenges throughout the school year. Each design challenge is based off a community need identified by our students. Through the process, students will identify the need/problem and brainstorm ways to solve the problem. After creating a plan, our engineers will use the materials requested in this project to build models and test them. For example, we may work on designing and creating bridges to solve the problem of flooding in our local community. Additionally, students have identified the problem of vegetable waste from our garden so we will be designing plant carriers. Finally, some students people in our community may not have electricity or ovens so our students will be designing and creating solar cookers to solve this problem.

Our goal for this project is to fill our Engineering & Technology Lab with materials and inspiration to support student engagement during the Engineering Design Process!

Each item was carefully selected to be useful in the planning, brainstorming, creating, building, and improving stages of design. From consumable materials used in daily design challenges to 3-D materials, items for building in 2-D and 3-D, a LEGO WALL, and lastly, storage solutions, our Engineering Lab will be STEMtastic!
