My Students

I teach technical shop classes specialized in Culinary Arts. Days are concentrated on going to work and perform professionalism in all aspects of our job. Every class perceived as a job site where students learn skills, share knowledge, get assessed , produce different levels of food products.

We represent a diversified culture and community with our population.

Majority of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. My students start taking the class as an elective but continue in the CTE program if they are willing to pursue a career in the food Service Industry. I also established an Work Based Learning Program where I place my kids in appropriate job sites for real world work experience. Students also experience job shadowing, industry related field trips, guest speakers. In addition they compete in culinary arts scholarship competitions to continue their education in prestigious culinary schools thorough out the state. They also perform community services, school events as well as catering to local business and homeless shelters. They work very hard!

My Project

Although we have an industrialized commercial kitchen, unfortunately we have no demonstration table. Students gather around the working table and watch my demonstration. Class sizes are average 25-30 students. Working surface area is approximately 3 feet by 6 feet . It is very difficult for them to fit and watch at the same time. Only the ones that are in the front can see clearly. Since the table is portable it can be moved to a different section of the kitchen where there's more space for students to observe. With the use of a mirror all students will able to see demonstrations. With the electric burner we won't have to move to the stove section and will be able to continue teaching right at the table, and gain an extra instructional time that is crucial in shop classes. In addition we invite guest chefs for demonstrations; this table will make it right for all.

This is a shop class, it is all hands-on.

Techniques and skills need to be watched and observed during demonstrations. With the addition of this equipment our classes will reach to a higher level in effectiveness and our learning environment will become much more comfortable for students. My kids work very hard to become somebody and be an independent productive citizens. They deserve to learn the most effective way.
